ATLANTA — It will take at least several days to reopen a stretch of Interstate 16 between Macon and Savannah after a bridge over the highway was hit by a dump truck early Thursday.
The bridge is 1.27 miles north of the Ga. 36 intersection with U.S. 23/Ga. 16 in Jackson.
Butts County Chamber of Commerce Executive Director Catherine Jones said organizers and public safety officials worked to create vehicle detours around Jackson in order to cut down on the time motorists spend stopped for parade traffic.
