Martin Luther King Jr. Day, Jan. 21

The United Coalition of Jackson will host the 33rd annual Martin Luther King Jr. Day celebration at 1:30 p.m. Jan. 21 at the Zion Missionary Baptist Church, 709 S. Mulberry St., Jackson. The program will be followed with fellowship and free chili and burgers sponsored by Masons of Jackson. The guest speaker will be Arthur White Jr., chief deputy of the Butts County Sheriff’s Office.

Health screenings, Jan. 24

Atlanta Vascular Associates will be sponsoring health screenings for area residents Jan. 24 at Macedonia Baptist Church, 151 Macedonia Church Road, Jackson. Winter Court, Jan. 25

Jackson High School will host its ninth annual Winter Court at 6 p.m. Jan. 25. The Lady Devils and Red Devils basketball teams will be playing against Peach County High School. The 2018 Winter Court Queen Skyla Salter, Senior Queen Jamya Roberts, and Winter Court King Deonate Barlow will be present to crown the new JHS 2019 Winter Court queen and king.

Scholarship application deadline, March 19

The Jackson-Butts County Council for the Arts will award two $1,000 scholarships this year to residents of Butts County who graduate from high school by June and plan to pursue education in a fine arts field (music, drama, visual art, dance, graphic art, etc.).
