Bob Merritt, a technology support specialist for the Butts County School System receives the June Extra Mile Award from school board member Kelly Strickland Raney June 11.

The winner of the Butts County School System’s June Extra Mile Award is Bob Merritt, a technology support specialist.

He received the award June 11 from Board of Education member Kelly Strickland Raney.

Merritt was nominated for the award by school system instructional technology specialist Wendy White.

“Bob has been a tremendous help this year. He goes out of his way to assist even when it isn’t his job to do it and is always willing,” White wrote in nominating Merritt. “It is obvious that the staff at Stark Elementary loves him and appreciates his willingness. Not only have I heard great things about Bob from the teachers but the students love him ...

“Recently I found out that Bob purchased a bag of foreign coins with his own money so that he could give the coins to graduating fifth-graders at Stark. Some of the teachers even created lessons knowing that Bob had purchased the coins for the students. It is great to be able to rely on a technology support specialist and know that he will get the job done,” White wrote.
