Butts County’s Department of Leisure Services has kicked off its summer day camp program, offering nine weeks of activities for children out of school on summer break.

Summer camp supervisor Linda Sims said the program offers field trips, activities, games, sports opportunities, art projects and swimming.

“Every week we do something different,” Sims said.

This week, Sims said summer day campers will visit Wild Animal Safari, where children will get up-close experiences with different animals. Campers also visit the Jackson-Butts County Public Library each Tuesday for its Summer Reading Program.

More than 60 children participate each week, Sims said. The program will be suspended for the week of the July 4 holiday.

Each week of camp costs $75. A $10 deposit per week reserves a space. Camp hours are 7:30 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Monday through Friday.
