The Three Rivers Regional Commission will meet at 2 p.m. May 2 at the Turin Town Hall, 47 Turin Road. The commission’s Planning at Projects Committee will meet at 11 a.m. The Finance, Audit and Administration Committee will meet at 12:30 p.m.
Ham radio group, May 6
The Amateur Radio Club of Butts County, an ARRL-affiliated radio club, will hold its monthly meeting at 7 p.m. May 6 in the Butts County Exchange Club Building, 174 Fairgrounds St., Jackson. Anyone with an interest in personal communications using amateur radio is invited to attend.
The club holds regular amateur radio license testing sessions at Butts County Fire Department Station No. 7 (at 144 Colwell Road). The next license testing session is at 9 a.m. May 11. May 8 and 9
The Butts County School System will be hosting kindergarten registration from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. May 8 and from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. May 9 at the central registration office, in the Ernest Battle Professional Development Center, 218 Woodland Way, Jackson. When registering a student that does not attend a Butts County pre-K program, parents or guardians will need to bring the child on the day of registration, along with several required documents. Fine Arts Festival, May 11
The Jackson-Butts County Council for the Arts will hold its 23rd annual Fine Arts Festival from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. May 11. The festival will be held at the corner of East Third Street and Dempsey Avenue.
Mother’s Day tea, May 12
The Carmichael House, at 149 McDonough Road, Jackson, will host a Mother’s Day tea May 12. Adults can relax on the veranda with tea, finger sandwiches and desserts. Children’s activities will include hat decorating and a hula hoop contest. A photo booth will be available. Call 770-827-5910.
William McIntosh DAR, May 16
The William McIntosh chapter of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution will meet at 1:30 p.m. May 16 at the Chapter House located at 222 Mulberry St., Jackson. The program will consist of a presentation by Jane Hampton and Barbara Fincher on “The First Breach of Promise Court Case in the Colonies.” All members, associates, prospective members and guests are invited. The NSDAR is open to any woman 18 years old or older who can prove descent from ancestors who fought or provided service during the American Revolution.

Trail ride, May 18
The Georgia Arabian Horse Association’s Spring Trail Ride will take place beginning at 10 a.m. May 18 at Ashland Farms, 541 Ga. Highway 138, Covington. The GAHA member rider fee is $20 and the non-GAHA member rider fee is $25. Both fees include lunch. Riders should be experienced. A maximum of 25 riders will be allowed. Sparkle and Shine Gala, June 1
WellStar Sylvan Grove Hospital Volunteer Services will host the Sparkle and Shine Gala from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. June 1 in the fellowship hall of Jackson United Methodist Church, at 409 E. Third St. The event will include vendors, a silent auction, two speakers and a luncheon with door prizes. Tickets are $12 each and must be purchased in advance beginning April 16. Head Start enrollment
The McIntosh Trail Early Childhood Development Council is accepting applications for Early Head Start, Head Start and pre-K programs for the upcoming 2019-20 school year.
The Early Head Start program is for expectant mothers and children ages 8 weeks to 3 years old. The Head Start program is for children who have or will turn 3 or 4 years of age by Sept. 1, 2019. Pre-K is for children who will have turned 4 by Sept. 1, 2019. Children with disabilities are given priority.
Head Start and Early Head Start are free programs and require families to meet federal guidelines. Pre-kindergarten is a free program with no income guidelines.
Applications may be picked up at the Department of Family and Children Services, Health Department, WIC program office, or at the office in any of McIntosh Trail’s seven counties: Butts, Henry, Lamar, Newton, Pike, Spalding and Upson. Pre-K is available only in Henry, Spalding, Newton and Upson counties.
