Butts County native LaShonda M. Fears has received a master’s in education from Mercer University.
The ceremony was held May 12 at Mercer’s Atlanta campus.
Fears is a 1999 graduate of Jackson High School. After working as a paraprofessional for 13 years in the Butts County School System, she became a teacher. In 2015, she obtained a bachelor’s degree from Mercer University with a minor in special education.
Fears is currently a fourth-grade teacher at Daughtry Elementary School. She said she wants to inspire youth to not let their past determine their future.
Her future plans include furthering her education and continuing to serve the students in Butts County.
Fears is the daughter of Deborah Fears and the late Jerry Webb of Jackson.
