SUV strikes, kills Jackson man lying in street

A Jackson man reportedly lying in the street was struck by a vehicle and killed Sept. 14, authorities said.

The 29-year-old man was identified as Marquez Ezelle McDaniel, according to the Georgia State Patrol.

“Reports show that he was apparently lying in the street, on Lyons Street, when he was struck by an oncoming car,” Butts County Coroner Ralph Wilson said. Wilson said McDaniel’s body was taken to the Georgia Bureau of Investigation’s medical examiner’s office as part of the investigation.

The Georgia State Patrol said McDaniel was in the westbound lane of Lyons Street, east of Ga. Highway 36, when he was struck around 2:20 a.m. by a Chevy Tahoe driven by Atilla Louise Jenkins, 33, of Jackson. Authorities did not say why McDaniel may have been in the street.

No charges have been filed, according to a State Patrol spokesman.

Wilson said the investigation is being handled jointly by the coroner’s office, the Butts County Sheriff’s Office and the State Patrol.
