Seven arrested in drug investigation

Butts County Sheriff’s Office weekly report

On Jan. 2, the Butts County Sheriff's Office Narcotics Division began an extensive drug investigation that ended Feb. 24, with the arrests of seven people.

Derrick Stewart was arrested on charges of sale of marijuana and "crack" cocaine. Stewart is currently on felony probation for drug charges in Butts County, authorities said. He was arrested at his residence of record on McDonough Road in Jackson Friday morning around 9 a.m. He is currently being held at the Butts County Sheriff's Office.

Carlos Goodrum was also arrested Friday morning on a charge of theft by conversion. Authorities allege that Goodrum conspired to sell a confidential informant illegal narcotics during this investigation. The informant allegedly paid him the money for the drugs and he left the scene with marked money used for the buy.

David McClean was arrested on a charge of sale of marijuana. At the time of his arrest he was found to be in possession of less than one ounce of marijuana, deputies said.

John Andrew "Drew" Whitaker was arrested on two counts of the sale of marijuana. When he was arrested, deputies said he was found to be in possession of more than two ounces of marijuana and was subsequently charged with possession with intent to distribute marijuana. The suspected marijuana was located in his bedroom at the time of his arrest.

Whitaker is currently serving a sentence under first offender felony probation, which stemmed from a drug arrest in Henry County, where he was arrested for possession of over four ounces of marijuana, authorities said.

Kyle Slayton Norsworthy was arrested on two counts of the sale of marijuana. He was also wanted by the City of Jackson on an outstanding warrant for a probation violation, deputies said.

Onrico Montez Jenkins was arrested on two counts of the sale of marijuana and the sale of powder cocaine. Jenkins is currently on parole for the sale of "crack" cocaine in Butts County, deputies said.

Mactorris Barlow was arrested at his residence on Second Street in Jackson on a charge of sale of marijuana.

The total cash seizure from this operation was $3,531, deputies said. More than one pound of suspected marijuana, prescription medication and a 2006 Chrysler 300 were also seized during this investigation. Several of the arrests came from the Pepperton area of Jackson.

The sheriff’s office is currently seeking a few suspects that were not located on Friday.

Gas station robbed

On Friday, Feb. 24, an armed robbery was reported at 885 Ga. Highway 42 South -- the Waites Service Station -- inside the City of Jackson. The alleged victim, Stacy Waites, was working at the store when a black male reportedly came in wearing a black mask and gloves, waived a gun in her face and demanded money.

He reportedly tied the victim up using telephone line and made her lay on the floor while he gathered up the money. The suspect allegedly took the money and two other handguns from the store and fled the scene on foot. The victim described the suspect as a black male, approximately 5 feet, 10 inches tall, weighing 200 to 220 pounds.
