The Azalea Garden Club met on Tuesday, Feb. 15, at the Butts County Exchange Club Building for its regularly scheduled meeting.

Following the business session, outgoing officers were called to come forward and accept the club's appreciation for their service for the past two years of club leadership.

"Passing the Flame" was the theme of the installation of officers for the 2011-2013 term. The new slate of officers came forward and accepted an "Azalea Flame" from the outgoing officers, as each new officer was charged with their duties and responsibilities for the new term.

The new slate of officers of the Azalea Garden Club are Dianne Dooley, president; Jean Driggers, vice president; Celida Spencer, secretary; Katie Kilby, treasurer; and June McEwen, parliamentarian.

Celida Spencer presented a review of the past presidency and a gift of appreciation to outgoing president, Dottie McMichael. Club member Betty Moats sang a song penned for the occasion entitled, "O Azalea," in honor of the new officers.

All members were reminded of the Arbor Day celebration on Feb. 18, the Great Backyard Bird Count, Feb. 18-21, and the Southeastern Flower Show, Feb. 25-27.

Members were divided into two groups, the Pink Azaleas and the Purple Azaleas, to play a game of competition of recognizing "songs and sayings" with the names of flowers, horticulture or birds in the title. Hostesses for the evening were JoAnn Chapman and Dottie McMichael, who chose a Valentine theme of red, white and pink for the display of refreshments, and the table decorations.

Anyone interested in attending the next Azalea Garden Club meeting is invited. It will be held Tuesday, March 15 at 7 p.m. Call Dianne Dooley at (770) 775-3512 for more information.
