The Central Georgia Electric Membership Corp.'s 74th annual members meeting will be held Wednesday, Aug. 3, at the utility's offices in Jackson.
A tradition that has evolved from a gathering at the Butts County Courthouse, to a meeting and lunch event at Indian Springs, the meeting has been held at the EMC's office since 2008, according to Manager of Marketing Christy Chewning.
Members meet under a large tent, vote on officers and directors, and hear reports from officers. Chewning said the meeting typically draws as many as 1,500 members and guests.
The meeting also offers registration gifts in the form of yellow, EMC pails filled with items like light bulbs, as well as prize drawings for larger gifts. Chewning said the grand prize this year will be a 42-inch flatscreen television. There are also gift certificates for $100 in electric payments.
This year, two board posts were up for election, but there were no challengers to the incumbents, Chewning said.
A lunch of hot dogs, chips and drinks will also be served. Entertainment will be provided by singer, Vicky Atwood, of McDonough.
The meeting will begin at 10 a.m., Wednesday, at 1083 S. Mulberry Street in Jackson, at the EMC Annex Courtyard. Registration begins at 9 a.m.
