Church News: New group starting at Jackson UMC

Jackson Presbyterian

Jackson Presbyterian Church, at 240 N. Oak Street, Jackson, will hold a "High Seas Adventure with Christ" vacation Bible school July 25-28, from 6 to 8 p.m.

Lizzie Berry

Lizzie Berry Baptist Church, at 190 Thomas Ferry Road, Jackson, will be having its vacation Bible school July 27-29 from 6 to 8 p.m., each night. Topics covered will be the cross, love and faith.

Sardis Baptist

Sardis Baptist Church, at 2120 Keys Ferry Road, McDonough, invites the public to attend its services each Sunday at 9:45 a.m., for Sunday school, with worship services at 11 a.m. The church will have Tommy Kennedy as a guest speaker for the service Sunday. Prayer services are at 7 p.m., Wednesday nights. Sardis will have vacation Bible school from July 27-29 from 7 to 9 p.m., each night. Commencement service will be on Sunday, July 31 at the 11 a.m. service. The church will celebrate its 188th anniversary on Aug. 7. Everyone is invited to attend. The group "Second Coming" will be performing after services, and a covered-dish lunch will be held in the fellowship hall.

Jackson UMC

A new group activity has been formed at the Jackson United Methodist Church, called the "Girls Lunch Brunch Group." The next meeting is July 27 at 12 p.m., at Chylaca's (the new restaurant next to the old Tilles Restaurant). Join the group for fun, fellowship and a short devotional.

Stark United

Methodist

Vacation Bible school at Stark United Methodist Church is being held July 25-29 from 6 to 8:30 p.m. The theme is "Shake It Up." All children 4 years old to fifth-grade are invited to attend. Abundant Life

Coming up July 30, from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m., is the "Back to School Bash" at Abundant Life. Donations for school supplies are being accepted now. "P.U.S.H." South River

The Virtuous Women of South River Baptist Church will hold a program entitled, "Women on the Battlefield for the Lord," on July 30 from 9 a.m., to 12 p.m. Speakers will be from surrounding churches and will share teachings on preparation for the enemy.

Gospel Praise

The Sixth Anniversary Gospel Praise Radio Broadcast concert will be July 30 at 6:30 p.m., at the Rufus Adams Auditorium, 218 Woodland Way in Jackson. The concert will feature Evangelist Mary Ross, The Gospel Express, Southland Gospel Singers and Turning Point of Griffin, among others. Admission is $7 at the door. School supply drive

Churches from across the community will be working together for the Back-To-School Event July 30, from 9 a.m., to 1 p.m., at the Butts County Recreation Department. The event is for students in Butts County Schools only. Free school supplies will be given to the first 1,000 children who attend with their parents. Parents must bring proof of residency.

Indian Springs Chapel

Summer worship services at Indian Springs Chapel will come to an end on July 31. The Butts County Historical Society has sponsored these services led by local minister, Dr. Ed Hoard. Hoard also serves as the senior pastor of First Baptist Church in Zebulon. Services through July 31 begin at 9 a.m.

Gospel of Christ

On Sunday, July 31, the Youth Department at Gospel of Christ will host a youth program beginning at 1 p.m. From 6 to 8 p.m., the YPWW Department will host a Rip the Microphone Program entitled, "Centering Your Affections as a Christian." There will be numerous speakers.

Gospel of Christ/Oak Grove

The Gospel of Christ and Oak Grove Holiness churches will be celebrating the 13th Combined Appreciation of Bishop B.F. and Elect Lady Pauline McKibben, the week of Aug. 1-5 and climaxing on Sunday, Aug. 7. The speakers for the week are Bishop J. Ridley, Pastor T. Head, Elder F. Wright, Pastor J. Miller, Bishop R. Williams, Pastor J. Thomas, Bishop T. Daniels, Elder T. Williams, Pastor B. Watts, Bishop J. Dunn, Pastor Goodings, the Brownlee family and Intern-Pastor D. Head. Nightly services will begin at 8 p.m., and the Sunday service is at 1 p.m. The theme for the week is "We Are Thankful," I Thessalonians 2:12-13. All are invited. Joshua's Place

Joshua's Place, at 146 Stark Road, Jackson, will hold a special children's blessing service on Aug. 7, in which members will be praying for all children as they begin the new school year.

Joshua's Place holds services on Sundays at 10:30 a.m., and 6 p.m. It also has adult Bible study, Solid Rock Kids and Extreme Youth services on Wednesdays at 7 p.m., prayer every Friday night at 7 p.m., and The New Beginnings Food Bank Ministry every Thursday at 6:30 p.m.

Joshua's Place also introduces a new ministry, "The Crushing -- A gathering place for the next generation of world changers." Whether you are in college, single, married, or fresh out of high school, you are invited to join. The Crushing is for those ages 18 to 35 and meets every Thursday at 7 p.m. Childcare is provided.

St. James Missionary

St. James Missionary Baptist Church, at 2150 High Falls Road, Jackson, will hold a Women's Day program Aug. 7 at 10 a.m., during the morning worship service. The speaker will be Minister Annette Smith, co-pastor of Open Hands Outreach Ministry in Jenkinsburg. The theme for this year's event is "Women of God: Growing, moving forward and prospering in His favor." The color of choice is any shade of green.

The church will celebrate homecoming Sunday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m., during the worship service. The afternoon service will feature Pastor Thomas Head of Laodicea Baptist Church of Forsyth, at 2:30 p.m. A revival will be held Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., with additional preaching by Head. Call (770) 775-6235.

Faithwalkers Church

Shiloh Missionary

Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, at 492 Shiloh Road in Jenkinsburg, will hold begin its homecoming and summer revival services Aug. 14, with morning worship at 10 a.m., followed by an afternoon service at 2:30 p.m. The guest for the afternoon service will be the Rev. Charles Dumas and the St. Philip AME Church of Griffin. Revival services will begin Aug. 17 and continue through Aug. 19, each evening at 7:30 p.m. Aug. 17 will feature the Rev. Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist Church, at 363 North McKibben Street, Jackson, will celebrate Women's Day 2011 on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be Minister Shelia Ray of South River Baptist Church in Jackson. The theme will be "Becoming a Strong Christian Woman."

Friendship AME

The Friendship AME Church, at 2260 Ga. Highway 16, Jackson, will hold a gospel sing-off featuring choirs, soloists and groups from around the county and other areas. The event will take place Aug. 27 at the National Guard Armory in Jackson, at 5 p.m. The cost will be $6 for those ages 12 and up, and $3 for those 6 to 11. Those 5 and under can enter free. Heart and Soul

Heart and Soul Christian Center, at 300 View Point Road in Jackson, invites the public to attend and experience anointed, powerful services.

Andy and Connie McDowell lead praise and worship. Teresa Moore sings tenor. She has a musical background, and is the director for the Henry Players. Terry Burge sings alto, teaches Sunday school and pastors alongside Pastor Mike Burge. Larry Moore, on steel guitar, has been playing all his life, is an accomplished musician, and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Scotty Pain plays drums. Mike Burge is on lead guitar, and has over 25 years in the ministry. Burning Bush

The Burning Bush Youth and Family Intervention Center on Brookwood Avenue has a time of devotion and fellowship for women on Tuesdays at 7 p.m. Women come together and confidentially share and interact with other women about life issues and God's direction.
