Church News: Revival starts at Zion Missionary Baptist

Baptist

Zion Missionary Baptist Church, at 709 South Mulberry Street in Jackson, will host revival services Wednesday, Aug. 10 through Friday, Aug. 12, beginning at 7:30 p.m., nightly. Liberty Baptist

On Wednesday, Aug. 10, all youth ages 5 to 17 are invited to go with the Liberty Baptist Youth Group to Indian Springs for an evening of fun and food. Attendees must get a permission form at the church and return it by Sunday, Aug. 7.

Sunday, Aug. 14 will be "Salad Sunday" and "Fill-a-Pew," with a wide variety of salads, breads and desserts. It's free lunch for the community immediately following the morning worship service.

Mt. Airy

Pastor John F. Varner and the Mt. Airy Baptist Church, located at 3147 Highway 83 North, Forsyth, is holding a three-night revival that began Aug. 8, at 7:30 p.m., with the Rev. Robert Walker and the Piney Grove Baptist Church of Forsyth. Tuesday, Aug. 9 featured the Rev. Anthony McCord and the Unity Grove Baptist Church of Locust Grove at 7:30 p.m. The speaker Wednesday, Aug. 10 at 7:30 p.m., will be the Rev. Jackson Presbyterian

Jackson Presbyterian Church will hold its annual "Blessing of the Backpacks" service Aug. 14 at 5:30 p.m., beginning with a barbecue supper in the fellowship hall, and continuing in the sanctuary, blessing young people returning to school. The event will be over by 6:30 p.m.

Sunday school is at 9:45 a.m., with church service Sundays at 11 a.m. Jackson Presbyterian will resume its Tuesday evening programming on Aug. 16 at 6 p.m. The church is located at 240 N. Shiloh Missionary

Shiloh Missionary Baptist Church, at 492 Shiloh Road in Jenkinsburg, will begin its homecoming and summer revival services Aug. 14, with morning worship at 10 a.m., followed by an afternoon service at 2:30 p.m. The guest for the afternoon service will be the Rev. The Friendship African Methodist Episcopal Church, at 2260 East Ga. Highway 16, Jackson, will host a revival Aug. 17-19 at 7:30 p.m., nightly. Homecoming will be Aug. 14 at 11 a.m.

Stark UMC

The Stark United Methodist Church "Titanic" Mystery Dinner Theater will take place on Aug. 20 at 6 p.m., in the Stark UMC Family Life Center. The cost is $30 per person; this includes a five-course meal, door prize, and a mystery game. Tickets are on sale now, but this is on a first-come, first-served basis. The church will not sell tickets at the door. The attire for the evening should be that of what you would have worn had you actually been on the Titanic that evening (captain dinner attire).

Friendship Baptist

Friendship Baptist Church, at 363 North McKibben Street, Jackson, will celebrate Women's Day 2011 on Sunday, Aug. 21 at 2 p.m. The guest speaker will be Minister Shelia Ray of South River Baptist Church in Jackson. The theme will be "Becoming a Strong Christian Woman."

St. James Missionary

St. James Missionary Baptist Church, at 2150 High Falls Road, Jackson, will celebrate homecoming Sunday, Aug. 21 at 10 a.m., during the worship service. The afternoon service will feature Pastor Thomas Head of Laodicea Baptist Church of Forsyth, at 2:30 p.m. A revival will be held Aug. 22 at 7 p.m., with additional preaching by Head. Ole Country

Pastor Robert Vines and the members of the Ole Country Church, at 2649 Ga. Highway 155, McDonough, invite the public to their Third Sunday Night Singing on Aug. 21 at 6 p.m., featuring The Barkers from Rockmart. Chris Barker, formerly with the Heirborn Quartet, and his sisters will perform. A nursery will be provided.

Friendship AME

The Friendship AME Church, at 2260 Ga. Highway 16, Jackson, will hold a gospel sing-off featuring choirs, soloists and groups from around the county and other areas. The event will take place Aug. 27 at the National Guard Armory in Jackson, at 5 p.m. The cost will be $6 for those ages 12 and up, and $3 for those 6 to 11. Those 5 and under can enter free. Macedonia Baptist

Victory Tabernacle

Heart and Soul

Heart and Soul Christian Center, at 300 View Point Road in Jackson, invites the public to attend and experience anointed, powerful services.

Andy and Connie McDowell lead praise and worship. Teresa Moore sings tenor. She has a musical background, and is the director for the Henry Players. Terry Burge sings alto, teaches Sunday school and pastors alongside Pastor Mike Burge. Larry Moore, on steel guitar, has been playing all his life, is an accomplished musician, and is a member of the Country Music Hall of Fame. Scotty Pain plays drums. Mike Burge is on lead guitar, and has over 25 years in the ministry. Burning Bush
