The Jackson High School tennis teams wrapped up their 2011 seasons with Region 4-AAA competition on Wednesday, April 13.
The Red Devils finished sixth out of the nine teams competing in the region. The JHS Lady Devils finished seventh out of nine teams.
"I am very pleased with how all the kids played," said Tennis Coach Jessica Jernigan. "I thought we did well against the schools with bigger tennis programs."
Jernigan said she is particularly proud of both the JHS boys and girls second doubles teams. It was the first year playing high school tennis for both of these pairs, and they lost few matches during the season. Chelsea Wilson and Heiley Durrough made up the second doubles team for the Lady Devils, and Dusty Parris and Cole Lane represented the Red Devils in the second doubles slot.
"I'll be sorry to see the seniors leave: Ian Cooke, Josh Lenz, Joe Glanton, Dusty Parris, Cole Lane, and Erika Bernhardt," added Jernigan.
All but two members of the JHS boys tennis team will graduate with the Class of 2011, so Jernigan is anticipating a rebuilding year in tennis for the Red Devils in 2012. The majority of the Lady Devils should be returning for another season.
