On March 10, the Mimosa Garden Club met at the Daughtry Foundation Building in Jackson for its regular meeting. Myra Potteiger, the newly elected president of the club, conducted the meeting, and the officers for the new year were installed.

The new officers are Potteiger; Anne O'Neal, first vice-president; Phyllis DeLay, second vice-president; Betty Herbert, secretary; Ellen Brewer, treasurer; and Gerry Wright, parliamentarian.

Hazel Newman, installing officer for the Mimosa Garden Club's newly elected officers, provided a challenging message, and each incoming officer was presented a red rose, which sealed her dedication to serve responsibly to the objectives of the Mimosa Garden Club and the Garden Club of Georgia.

Outgoing president, Barbara Dyche, was thanked for her service, as were all of the board members. A book will be presented to the Jackson-Butts County Public Library in honor of Dyche, and a book will also be donated to the library in memory of Mary Carr, a member of the Mimosa Garden Club who passed away last year.

The club members were made aware that there are no gardening magazines available in the Jackson-Butts County Public Library and agreed to provide the library with some subscriptions.

Mimosa Garden Club member Emma Chapman was congratulated for her selection for a Shining Light Award at the Butts County Chamber of Commerce Banquet on March 5. Fellow club members also expressed pride in Newman, who was installed as treasurer for the Butts County Historical Society. Dyche was recognized as the Mimosa Garden Club member who brought the most flower specimens to club meetings during the past year.

The program for the meeting, on flower arranging, was presented by club member Carol Fletcher, who explained that less is often more.

The Mimosa Garden Club welcomed five new members over the past year.
